Workshop in ChileConservation and Sustainable Utilization of Plant and Animal Genetic Resources: The Nordic Model and its possible application in Chile. In the period January 12 - 16, NordGen staff and other Nordic scientists participated in the 1st International Workshop, arranged by Fitogen at the University de Los Lagos. The workshop took place in two locations in Chile. First in the University’s Santiago campus, where the Nordic participants presented our model for politicians and others to a small and interested audience. The second part of the workshop took place in University de Los Lagos campus in Osorno, 1000 Km south of Santiago. Here the presentations were supplemented with corresponding Chilean contributions, and good discussions took place. Particularly, on the third day during the wind up session when Nordic participants presented observations and recommendation. In the mornings we had the presentations and the afternoons were reserved for field studies in our respective fields of interest. NordGen staff participated in the agricultural arrangements where we visited INIA-Remehue – the national potato research institute, Allessandro Montesino, a nursery for blueberries, Alliums and Peonies. Later we paid a visit to a huge berry farm - Framberry with 250 000 ha of raspberries. During the workshop there were good opportunities to establish formal and informal relationships for a future collaboration between the Chilean institutions and scientists with institution in the Nordic region including NordGen.
