Workshop in Latvia
In connection with the conference ”Diversity in Plant Breeding and Agriculture Strategies for Healthy Lifestyle” organized by State Stende Cereals Breeding Institute in Latvia two workshops were organized.
| The workshop “Pre-breeding collaboration in the Nordic-Baltic region” was chaired by Professor Anders Nilsson, Swedish University of Agricultural Science. The second workshop was organized and chaired by Agnese Kolondinska Brantestam and Morten Rasmussen, both NordGen.
Anna Palmé gave a speech on “Utilizing crop wild relatives in the Baltic sea region – findings in the EU-project “PGR secure”. By the end of the workshop a debate was held on “Regional collaboration in plant science and breeding research, fighting climate change challenges in the Baltic Sea region”.
The conference and the workshops were held on May 31and June 1st, 2012. The 66 participants represented 9 different countries.

| A poster session was held in connection with the conference. NordGen was represented by a poster from Agnese Kolondinska Brantestam, “Genetic profiles and diversity of Baltic spring barley material”.

The conference was part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the State Stende Cereals Breeding Institute. A field excursion was given to demonstrate the history and the development of the institute. The organizers had also arranged that the participants got to know the Latvian cuisine as well as Latvian music and dance.
