Old cereal landraces in organic farmingEleven farmers of the organisation 'Økologisk Spesialkorn', a farmer-owned organisation for organically grown cereal varieties and their products, grow old landraces of cereals because these are well suited for organic production. This past weekend a Nordic seminar was held with taste samples and science about traits of the old landraces.
There are several reasons why the organisation have searched for and brought the landraces to use, some of them conserved in the Nordic genebank NordGen. More about the seminar and why old landraces work so well in organic farming is found in the article (in Norwegian) on the website of Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute. |
