Herbs & medicinal plants

Special focus is set on herbs & medicinal plants. The work includes herbs used for spices, medicine and technical purposes. Such plants have a long tradition in the Nordic countries, with references to the Vikings sagas and the early Nordic monestries. NordGen are collecting seeds of selected crops that is stored in the gene bank.

Priority is given to cultivated species and species that have been domesticated from cultivation. New collections has been carried out of Agelica, Rose Root and Thyme and other crops in Greenland, Iceland and Faroe Islands.

NordGen is involved in several projects related to these crops.

NordGen Kasvit
on Pohjoismaisen geenivarakeskuksen kasvisektori. Säilytämme viljely- ja hyötykasvien siemeniä, kasvien luonnonvaraisia sukulaisia ja edistämme niiden kestävää käyttöä. Välitämme siemeniä ja niitä koskevaa tietoa ja tiedotamme kasvigeenivarojen merkityksestä yhteiskunnalle Pohjolassa ja globaalisti.
