New staff to NordGen

NordGen welcomes new staff members and wish old staff good luck with their new challenges.

In the beginning of February Juha Kantanen left his position as leader of the Farm Animal Sector. Juha has been appointed as a professor in MTT Agrifood Research Finland, Biotechnology and Food Research. In his 5-year professorship he will be working with animal genomics and genomic resources in various livestock species.

Peer Berg - NordGen Farm Animal

					The new sector leader is Dr. Peer Berg, currently employed by Aarhus University, Denmark. Peer will take over Juha’s tasks in May

Anna Palmé - NordGen Plants

					Anna has a background in population genetics and evolutionary research and she has for example studied migration patterns since the last ice age in Silver Birch, hybridization among different birch species, selection patterns in pine genes and population structure in Capsella species. At NordGen Plants she will be a member of the Working Group for Forage and Industrial Crops and for example be involved in Nordic and European cooperation, database managing and characterization projects.

Anne Kettunen Præbel - NordGen Farm Animal

					From the beginning of 2012 NordGen Farm Animal Sector has recruited a new Senior Advisor Ph.D. Anne Kettunen Præbel. Anne has a background as a research scientist and has experience in both livestock and fish breeding programs. In NordGen Farm Animals her responsibilities include project management, Nordic and international networking and information and communication tasks.

Jørn Henrik Sønstebø - NordGen Forest
					Jørn Henrik Sønstebø has been a researcher at the Norwegian forest and Landscape Institute from March 2011. His background is in population genetics and molecular ecology e.g. doing research on genetic structure in brown trout (Salmo trutta) and studying the abundance of different groups of the toxic cyanobacteria Planktothrix. Currently his main focus at the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute is population genetic studies on different tree species such as Subalpine fir and Norway spruce. This includes studies related to genetic variation in seed orchards and he is also involved in breeding of spruce in Norway.
